Middle Eastern cuisine in Dubai is already well represented, and now Australian-Lebanese Michelin-starred chef Greg Malouf has raised the bar further.
His latest venture, Zahira, recently opened at The H Dubai and promises a stylish take on traditional Middle Eastern dishes.
“I’ve spent years working on the evolution of Lebanese cuisine and while the dishes need to remain faithful to the essence of the region, they can still be presented with creative flair,” says Malouf.
Aiming to “showcase an artistic journey through the Levant”, dishes are inventive and interesting, such as smoky moutabal with cheesy naan bread, hazelnut falafel and salmon kibbeh nayyeh.
The dish that piques our interest most, though, is the Middle Eastern take on burrata. And since we love cheese, we can’t help but be thrilled that a dish seen on menus across the city, but not usually on Middle Eastern ones, is popping up here.
The Italian cheese is served atop traditional Middle Eastern foul medames and broad beans, in place of more common Italian accompaniments such as tomato.
The courses on the menu are labelled “The Art of Sharing”, “The Art of Mezza”, “The Art of the Garden”, “The Art of Sweet Design” and “The Art of Tradition”. Alternatively, “The Art of Feasting” presents a nine-course tasting menu for Dhs260, which changes regularly, for those adventurous (and hungry enough) to give it ago.
